Family immigration in Finland

Also known as immigration based on family ties in Finland.
You can apply for residence permit based on the basis of family ties if your family member has obtained a Finnish residence permit.

Child

Underaged biological or adopted children living in the same household with parents.

Spouse

Registered spouses including same gender registered partnerships.

Registered partners

Only these family members can apply for a residence permit based on family ties according to the Finnish immigration law.

Who can apply

Civil partners, who have been cohabiting with the reunifying family member for more than 2 years in the same household.

Family immigration documents

All required documents have be translated to English or Finnish. The list below contains important documents, which applicant should have before applying for residence permit based on family ties in Finland.

In addition to the listed documents you also would need valid passports and passport photos taken less than 6 months ago. In some cases, Finnish immigration office may send clarification request, therefore applicant is required to provide additional documents.
1. Marriage certificate (with Apostille)
2. Children's birth certificates (with Apostille)
3. Employment contract (for the person already residing in Finland)
4. One parent's consent for the child's relocation (in case only one parent is moving to Finland)
5. Payslip for the previous payment period
